  [DRIFT ON OFF. Rosa Barba]

Verein Medienturm
Großmarktstraße 8b, A-8020 Graz

In Rosa Barba’s cinematic works, the moment before an essential action is depicted, an interstage, wherein meaning dissolves for an instant, leaving an impression of incompleteness. The plot of her stories develops along the crossovers of the constructions of fictitious and authentic realities. The strung events and minimal sensations create the imaginary courses of her network.
The presented installation “Gegenlaufsequenzer” (“Counter Rotation Sequencer”) consists of a film loop that is directed through the exhibition space by means of numerous turn-over rolls; at two points, it is scanned by two “stroboscope projector machines”. The lamps are rhythmically synchronized, the flash-like projections of the images compose the sound. The images show photographs of unspecific places, snap shots of people in cities, on airports, in casinos, in the nowhere.
In another room, the music video “KONTRA” for the Cologne-based formation MICROSTORIA with Jan St. Werner (Mouse on Mars) and Markus Popp (Oval) is on display.
