Maurizio Lazzaroto’s current book VIDEOPHILOSOPHIE (“Video Philosophy”) was inspired by the work of the Cologne-based artist Angela Melitopoulos. Her methods of shooting, cutting and thinking a relation between the picture and the world, inspired Maurizio Lazzaroto to write an “ontology” of the video. In the current video of Angela Melitopoulo’s “Passing Drama” you can “see” this ontology.
The video image becomes an echo of the movement of the great deterritorialized (Deleuze/Guattari), of the migrant proletariat. The image presents itself in front of the memory (the montage) not as icon, but as a chain of points and lines. The video image results from lines and weavings. Contrary to a fabric, the video image weaves and interweaves itself continuously, producing always new themes. In the last work of Angela Melitopoulos, the images of looms do not only merely function to describe sociologically, but, at the same time, they form the paradigm of image construction. Is it necessary to recall that Plato’s metaphor for politics was weaving?
