AIR03. ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
At present, Vuk ´ Cosi ´ c, inventor of the concept of Net.Art and crucial member of the first generation of net artists is “AIR03. Artist in Residence” at Kunstverein Medienturm. HISTORY OF ART FOR THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY is technically described a visualisation of Carnivore, the project that mimics FBI’s Internet surveillance software. The surveillance target’s data which is transferred via the Internet is being displayed on recognizable masterpieces by Cezanne, Van Gogh and others so that the reading of the painting gives the trained operative a clear insight into the target’s web activities.
One possible interpretation of this work: artists often call their attention to the surveillance methods, used by governments, these practices were, however, rather depicted in a negative way. On the other hand, mankind has found a way to accept technology and its aesthetics. This project shall highlight a pleasant, visual aspect of a normally unacceptable surveillance practice.
