Markus Huemer analyses the fact that art always has been produced and transported via media, whereas his interest lies in a conceptual handling of material and the execution of the conditions of art. The video WEITERE 1127 TAGE OHNE EROTISCHEN BLICKKONTAKT (“Further 1127 Days without Erotic Eye Contact”) links the analysis of the auratic icon of the new media, the “black box”, with a pictorial tradition that refers here to Jackson Pollock’s “action paintings” that have established the style of abstract expressionism. In a shaded space, the zero-light of a beamer opens up a cone of light, wherein a dozen of chickens cavort, that were living in this dislocated “black box” for some weeks. The birds hop through the space, eat their forage and leave their excrements on the floor – in the light of the beamer, a “drop painting” evolves, which continuously redesigns itself. The ancient Romans already interpreted the flight and behaviour of birds to predict the course of the world.
