[EDITION MEDIENTURM. Build-up of a Collection]

Kunstverein Medienturm
Josefigasse 1, 8020 Graz

The exhibition EDITION MEDIENTURM (“Build-up of a Collection”) showcases a selection of commissioned works, which were developed for exhibitions or presentations at Kunstverein Medienturm in the course of the last years. Kunstverein Medienturm consistently receives generous artists’ contributions that are archived and registered at the best and offered as loan or partly for sale. On display are videos, photographs, prints and installations that are for the most part published as artists’ editions in a limited number. Commissioned works on DVD remain core of this collection in a set-up phase, which is distributed with an introductory text and biographical data, all included in a slipcase.

Ambitious aim of the EDITION MEDIENTURM is to open up a marketing channel for current, experimental image art, to reinforce contacts to the invited artists or similar initiatives, and to strengthen the structures of Kunstverein Medienturm as almost sole, permanent and nationwide exhibition context for the realm of the “new media”. Consequentially, the focus lies on current works of Austrian or Austria-based artists. Vital concern of the expandable EDITION MEDIENTURM remains a sustainable anchoring of experimental elements of the “new media” within the broader field of contemporary art. A crucial programmatic interest is geared to non-figurative, conceptual approaches, which also can be breached by concrete reference pieces. This perception is also favoured by the artist Karø Goldt to whom a central part of the exhibition is dedicated.

Karø Goldt is already the fifth international media artist, invited as part of the program “AIR. Artist in Residence” to Kunstverein Medienturm. Lead-managed by quartier21/MQ, the series is continued in cooperation with Kunst verein Medienturm, prolonging the program by a two-month stay in Vienna starting with the artist Goldt. As part of a longer stay in Graz, Goldt elaborates the edition’s video SLANT that is completed by a media-installative exhibition setting.
